This page is for those in Humboldt County, CA and surrounding areas who are interested in adventure-based practice. The West Region of the Association for Experiential Education has agreed to host this page to help support the formation of this group.
About this Group:
We had our first meeting on 11/29/07. We met to discuss how those of us interested in adventure-based work might come together to support and develop the opportunities in this community. About 12 people joined together (and another 8-12 indicated an interest) for an exciting conversation. You can see the notes from this fist meeting, and explore the bridge we are building to get from the many wonderful resources we have in Humboldt County to the vision of where we hope t go. This website is a first step in that "bridge" as is the decision to meet again. Below is the save the date info for our next meeting. Also below is a link to join our mailing list, to stay informed about future meetings, training opportunities, and other events of interest.
The group held its second meeting on 1/8/08 and continued the process of developing a framework and structure for the group and the major tasks we hope to accomplish in the next six months (see the notes from the second meeting).
We invite you to join with us as we work to build the potential and opportunities for adventure-based practice in Humboldt and surrounding communities.

First Hour -
Christian Itin will present a facilitation workshop on Dealing with Challenges as Gifts - Have you ever found yourself perplexed and lost in the facilitation of an experience? This workshop will explore the art of facilitation as an exchange of gifts between participant and facilitator. Reframing and reconceptualizing challenging situations presented by participants as gifts and the possible solutions we offer as gifts through a dynamic and continuous transactive process are at the heart of this workshop.
