Mark Twain once said, "Sail away from the safe harbor-- explore, dream, discover!" As people, we often forget in the hustle and bustle of day to day lives and get caught up in our safe harbor--whether it be our careers, our families, schools, and look at that horizon wistfully, longing for more. This year join us for a weekend to remember as we sail past that horizon and remember how to dream at the 2010 West Regional Conference for the Association for Experiential Education, April 23-25 at the Granlibakken Resort and Conference Center at Lake Tahoe, CA.

This year's theme is Expanding Horizons, Exploring Possibilities. Every year we connect people from all walks of life who are dedicated to the philosphy that education should be an experience. We bring together outdoor educators, rope course facilitators, adventure guides, therapists, doctors, teachers, park service rangers, and much, much more. This year we challenge you to look beyond your horizon and see how much you can be.

Hello!
My name is Carrie Truong and last year was my first AEE conference, Reaching Out: Experiential Education Across Borders. I was swept away by the openness and energy that permeated the air, and was left inspired and motivated to make changes in my own life and pursue my dreams. A first-time presenter, I jumped in the water without any idea what I was in for, the amazing people I would meet, the ideas we would create, and more importantly, how much we learned from each other. I most definitely learned that experiential education-- or rather, what we can learn from it -- is valuable to everyone, no matter who you are.
As a student at UCLA, I first got a taste of experiential education working at the UCLA Challenge Course. Working with students, athletes, and many other professionals, I found everybody always left the high ropes course learning something about themselves and other people. I was amazed at the power of the tools we learn during experiential activities-- whether they be games, initatives, percieved risk activities, adventure activities-- they all helped people learn in a fun and engaging way.
I came to the conference with an open mind and curious expectations -- I left filled with hope, ideas, and many new friends! I was so inspired I wanted to be involved right away with helping people learn about experiential education and how it can help them achieve their goals.
This year, I am helping out on the Leadership Council and am very excited to be contributing in anyway to the magic that will happen on April 23-25 at the Granlibakken Resort and Conference Center at Lake Tahoe, CA. I definitely hope to see you there! I am especially excited to bring a student movement towards experiential education, as so many are passionate about it but don't know how to get involved and the potential. Please don't hesitate to contact me with questions about the website or how to get involved.
