Activity-based Group Work and
Experiential Education

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Experiential educators often utilize activity as a part of their work. This workshop will explore experientially the practice of activity-based group work and its link to experiential education. The full range of experiential activities that make up this form of practice will be presented and opportunities to explore them will be examined. The workshop will consider how this broad conceptualization of experiential activities can be used to develop allies, expand existing programs, and introduce adventure programming into other forms of activity-based group work. Participants will receive a full packet of information including a selection of activities, models and facilitation tools.
Christian Itin is an internationally recognized presenter in the area of experiential education theory, group practice, experiential facilitation and adventure-based practice. He is the past president of AEE and current co-chair of the West Region.
The Science of Large Group Events

PRESENTER: Wayne Bennett
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Learn how to have success with team building for groups as large as 1,000 people or more. Learn techniques for large groups of people from all genres and ages. Learn the fundamentals behind large group activities including: immediate positive affective response, "quick-do," how to deliver effective instructions, types of activities that work, and tying it all together at the end.

Interpretive hike into Sly Park Creek Canyon

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Get out while you can! Open air and adventure is what got us into this business in the first place. Enjoy a brisk walk into the El Dorado National Forest and learn a bit about this dynamic mixed conifer environment and the joy of education within the out of doors.
Stephen (Hoppy) Hopkins worked as a teacher, mentor, and principal of Sly Park Center for over 30 years. He received the Environmental Educator of the Year Award in 2000 and the Howard Bell Award in 2004 for his work in environmental and outdoor education. In his semi-retirement he is involved in environmental education programs regionally, nationality and internationally. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors as the Sate Coordinating Secretary for the Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (AEOE). For more information download this PDF flyer .
